In a major infrastructure boost for eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, enhancing connectivity across the region and linking it directly with the Purvanchal Expressway.
Project Overview
The 91.35-kilometre-long expressway starts from Jaitpur (near NH-27 in Gorakhpur) and stretches up to Salarpur in Azamgarh, where it merges with the Purvanchal Expressway. Built at a cost of ₹7,283.28 crore, the expressway passes through four districts:
Gorakhpur
Sant Kabir Nagar
Ambedkar Nagar
Azamgarh
Route and Structure
Starting Point: Jaitpur, Gorakhpur (NH-27)
Ending Point: Salarpur, Azamgarh (connects to Purvanchal Expressway)
Total Length: 91.35 km
Design: Four-lane, fully access-controlled (expandable to six lanes)
Phases:
Jaitpur to Phulwaria (48.317 km) – Constructed by APCO Infratech Pvt Ltd
Phulwaria to Salarpur (43.035 km) – Constructed by Dilip Buildcon Ltd
Travel Time Reduction
The expressway significantly cuts down travel time across the region:
Gorakhpur to Urwa: Reduced from 1 hour to 20–25 minutes
Gorakhpur to Lucknow: Now possible in just 3.5 hours via the Purvanchal Expressway
Enhanced connectivity to key cities like Delhi, Agra, and soon Patna
Toll Charges
The toll rates are yet to be officially notified. However, they are expected to be in line with those on the Purvanchal Expressway, as per sources.
Future Expansion and Plans
Highlighting the state’s expressway revolution, CM Yogi Adityanath said:“
Earlier, the Agra–Lucknow Expressway was left incomplete. Today, we’ve successfully completed six major expressway projects in the state. The Purvanchal Expressway (340 km) is fully operational, and its connectivity to Patna is on the verge of completion.”
He further added that the expressway projects are part of a broader plan to ease travel between Patna, Lucknow, and Delhi, thereby boosting regional development.
